Viwandani MCA Aaron Kang’ara Arrested Over Alleged Robbery With Violence Incident
Viwandani Ward Member of County Assembly (MCA) Aaron Kang’ara has been arrested over his alleged involvement in a robbery with violence case linked to a deadly incident at Nairobi’s Donholm interchange, as authorities intensify a nationwide crackdown on criminal gangs and hired goons.
The MCA was arrested alongside two other suspects and is being held at Buruburu Police Station ahead of his planned arraignment at the Makadara Law Court.
Speaking on Tuesday, July 14, Buruburu Police Commander Boniface Lomuk confirmed that Kang’ara had been charged with robbery with violence as well as malicious property damage.
“We are holding Viwandani MCA Aaron Kangara together with two other individuals who will all be arraigned tomorrow before the courts for the offence of robbery with violence,” the Police Commander stated.
According to Lomuk, the three suspects remain in police custody while detectives continue investigating the incident that occurred in late June at the Donholm interchange.
Police have also launched a manhunt for additional suspects believed to have participated in the alleged goon attack.
Investigators say the incident turned deadly after one person lost their life, triggering public outrage in the area.
Following the victim’s death, residents staged protests demanding justice before setting the MCA’s office on fire.
Kang’ara’s arrest comes only days after Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen warned that politicians found to have mobilised criminal gangs would face the full force of the law.
Murkomen also announced a nationwide operation targeting gangs and hired goons, saying the crackdown would be coordinated by National Police Service Inspector General Douglas Kanja.
The government has increasingly expressed concern over a rise in organised gang violence, with recent attacks reported in Kisumu and Nyahururu.
Two people were killed during the violence in Kisumu, adding to growing pressure on security agencies to dismantle criminal networks allegedly operating during political and public events.
The National Police Service has since confirmed that more than 20 suspects linked to the Kisumu and Nyahururu incidents have already been arrested and charged in court.
Police have maintained that they have a zero-tolerance policy towards criminal gangs and have vowed to ensure everyone found responsible is brought before the courts.
