Boy Issa Juma Urges Kwale Residents to Back Ruto After President Cleared Son’s Ksh2 Million School Fees

Kwale Senator Boy Issa Juma has sparked widespread debate after revealing that President William Ruto helped clear Ksh2 million in outstanding school fees for his son before urging residents to support the Head of State’s re-election in 2027.

The remarks were made during a public rally on Monday, July 13, before a video of the speech circulated widely online, prompting mixed reactions from Kenyans.

Addressing residents, Juma said he had been unable to raise tuition fees for his son, who is pursuing a medical degree at a university in Dubai, and sought assistance from the President.

“Three months ago, I had financial challenges and could not raise fees for my child, who is studying medicine in Dubai. When the President came to Kwale, I approached him and explained my situation. He asked me to return the following day and collect the money and pay the tuition fees. Isn’t he a befitting leader?”

The Senator used the experience to argue that President Ruto’s support extended beyond his own family and ultimately benefited the people of Kwale County.

“That young man is my son, but he is from Kwale County. When he comes back in the future, wouldn’t he help the people of Kwale?”

Juma maintained that residents should rally behind the President’s second-term bid, saying the assistance demonstrated leadership that deserved political support.

He further declared that Kwale County would play a significant role in discussions surrounding the formation of Kenya’s next government.

According to the Senator, local leaders have thrown their weight behind President Ruto’s re-election because they believe his administration has ensured that the Coast Region is not left behind in national development.

However, the comments quickly drew criticism on social media, where many Kenyans questioned the reasoning behind linking personal financial assistance to political support.

Some users also wondered what options were available to ordinary parents struggling to pay school fees who do not have direct access to the President.

During the same event, Cabinet Secretaries Hassan Joho and Salim Mvurya highlighted several government projects in the Coast Region as evidence of ongoing development.

Among the initiatives they cited were the gazettement of village elders, the Affordable Housing Programme, a Ksh3.3 billion investment in the fisheries sector and the construction of modern markets.

The Senator’s remarks have since become part of a broader public conversation on leadership, access to government assistance and the political messaging likely to shape campaigns ahead of the 2027 General Election.
