Peter Salasya Responds After Social Media Manager Harriet Njenga Resigns on Instagram

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya’s social media team has been thrust into the spotlight after his Social Media Manager, Harriet Njenga, announced her resignation in an unusually public fashion, sharing a formal resignation letter, leaked WhatsApp conversations and photographs from their time working together.

Harriet, who has been part of the Salasya TV team since December 2024, addressed her resignation letter directly to the legislator and dated it July 11. In the letter, she formally stepped down as Social Media Manager and a member of the Salasya TV crew.

Her announcement quickly attracted widespread attention online, not only because she chose Instagram to communicate her decision but also because she accompanied the resignation with private WhatsApp exchanges and photographs documenting their working relationship.

Why Harriet Njenga resigned

According to reports, Harriet’s decision followed an incident during a live interview on Milele FM, where presenter Tony Mwirigi allegedly made remarks suggesting she shared a personal relationship with Salasya.

The comments reportedly left her feeling publicly embarrassed and became the tipping point that influenced her decision to leave.

In her farewell post, Harriet also published screenshots of private WhatsApp conversations with the MP, giving followers an insight into discussions that had taken place behind the scenes.

Peter Salasya apologises

Rather than ignore the public resignation, Salasya reposted Harriet’s announcement on his own Instagram account and responded directly to her.

The MP praised Harriet for the role she played in expanding Salasya TV’s digital footprint across YouTube, Instagram, TikTok, Facebook and X.

He also recognised other members of the team, including Oliver Ouma Barasa, Peter Sydney and Kevin Serveen, crediting them for helping build the growing digital brand.

Salasya further distanced himself from the controversial remarks made during the Milele FM interview and apologised for the distress they caused Harriet.

In an effort to persuade her to reconsider, he invited Harriet to visit his office on Tuesday morning to receive a new employment contract prepared by his personal assistant, Elvis. The proposed contract reportedly included a salary increase and improved allowances.

“I was surprised to see your post on social media about your resignation,” Salasya wrote, before going on to describe her role in building his digital presence as “invaluable.”

Will Harriet Njenga return?

Whether Harriet will accept Salasya’s offer remains unclear.

As of now, she has not publicly indicated whether she intends to withdraw her resignation or sign the improved employment contract, leaving the future of her role within Salasya TV uncertain.
