Jambojet Resumes Daily Nairobi–Entebbe Flights After Six-Year Break

Jambojet has resumed daily flights between Nairobi and Entebbe, Uganda, marking the airline’s return to the route six years after suspending operations during the Covid-19 pandemic.

The Kenyan low-cost carrier announced the resumption on Thursday, October 1, describing the service as a renewed link between Kenya and Uganda and part of its efforts to strengthen regional connectivity.

The airline said the daily service is designed to provide a direct connection for passengers travelling between the two countries for business, tourism, family visits and other purposes.

“Your direct, hassle-free route between Kenya and Uganda is officially open,” Jambojet said in a statement.

“Whatever your reason to fly, Jambojet is now your daily direct bridge connecting Kenya and Uganda,” the airline added.

Nairobi–Entebbe flight schedule

Under the new schedule, the flight from Nairobi will depart at 9:30am and arrive at Entebbe at 11:00am.

The return service will leave Entebbe at 11:40am, arriving in Nairobi at 1:30pm.

Jambojet said one-way fares from Nairobi to Entebbe will start at $170 (approximately Ksh22,950), although the final price paid by passengers may depend on the applicable fare and booking conditions.

The airline will also offer cargo and parcel services on the route, potentially creating an additional channel for the movement of goods between Kenya and Uganda.

Jambojet’s return to Uganda

Jambojet first entered the Ugandan market in 2018 as part of its regional expansion strategy.

However, the airline suspended its Uganda operations in June 2020, as the Covid-19 pandemic caused a sharp decline in passenger demand and disrupted international aviation.

Following the suspension, Jambojet concentrated on its domestic Kenyan network as the aviation industry gradually recovered from the pandemic.

The return to Entebbe comes as the airline continues to expand its operating capacity. Jambojet has increased its active fleet to 11 aircraft, providing additional capacity for both domestic and regional operations.

Jambojet CEO Karanja Ndegwa previously said the airline viewed the Uganda route as an opportunity to support economic activity between the neighbouring countries.

“Our return to Uganda is a strategic step forward in our mission to strengthen regional connectivity,” Ndegwa said on August 27.

“We see significant opportunities to support business, tourism and trade between Kenya and Uganda while providing travellers with an affordable, reliable and convenient flying experience that Jambojet is known for,” he added.

The restoration of the Nairobi–Entebbe service gives travellers another direct air connection between the two East African destinations, while the introduction of cargo and parcel operations expands the route beyond passenger travel.
