IRIB Deletes Post Claiming Kenya Has Strategic Military Reserves for Middle East Conflict
Iran’s state broadcaster Islamic Republic of Iran Broadcasting (IRIB) has triggered controversy after claiming Kenya possesses “strategic military reserves” that could enter the ongoing Middle East conflict “at the right time”.
The claim, made in a now-deleted post shared on the broadcaster’s official X account, suggested Kenya and Nigeria had military resources that could be deployed in the conflict involving Iran, the United States and Israel.
However, IRIB did not provide evidence to support the allegation, explain what the alleged reserves were, or clarify why Kenya and Nigeria were linked to the escalating tensions.
The post quoted what the broadcaster described as an international affairs expert, who claimed that the two African countries had military reserves that would become involved when appropriate.
It read: “Kenya and Nigeria also possess strategic military reserves that will enter the field at the appropriate time.”
The statement immediately raised questions over the basis of the claim, particularly because Kenya has not announced any military deployment or involvement in operations connected to the Middle East conflict.
Deleted IRIB Post Raises Diplomatic Questions
The controversial message was later removed from IRIB’s official X account without explanation.
The deletion left uncertainty over whether the statement had been published accidentally, whether it represented the personal views of the analyst involved, or whether it reflected a broader position within Iranian media circles.
Neither Iranian authorities nor IRIB issued clarification on whether the remarks represented the official position of the Iranian government.
As of Saturday, July 11, the Kenyan government had also not issued an official response to the claims.
The Nigerian government similarly remained silent on the allegations.
Kenyans Question Alleged Link to Middle East Conflict
The claim quickly spread online, prompting debate among Kenyans over why the country had been mentioned in relation to a conflict thousands of kilometres away.
Many social media users questioned whether there was any basis for suggesting Kenya could participate militarily in the confrontation involving Iran, Israel and the United States.
Some urged the government to maintain Kenya’s traditional diplomatic approach and avoid being pulled into international military disputes.
One online user claimed: “Iran as a country should not be involved in a war with peaceful countries like Kenya. If this happens, then it could amount to an act of terrorism under international law.”
Others called for caution, arguing that unverified statements during periods of international tension could create unnecessary fear and confusion.
No Evidence of Kenyan Military Involvement
The IRIB claim has not been supported by any publicly available evidence indicating Kenya has prepared military reserves for deployment in the Middle East conflict.
Kenya has not announced participation in military operations involving Iran, Israel or the United States.
The controversy comes as tensions continue to rise internationally, increasing scrutiny over statements linking countries to foreign conflicts.
Experts and observers often warn that misinformation during wars can quickly spread online, affecting public perception and diplomatic relations.
For now, the IRIB statement remains an unverified claim, with no confirmation from either Kenyan or Iranian authorities.
