“You Would Not Have Won Without Me” — Elon Musk Lashes Out at Trump Over 2024 Election Support

Billionaire entrepreneur Elon Musk has ignited a public spat with U.S. President Donald Trump, claiming credit for Trump’s 2024 election victory and accusing the president of “ingratitude” over their now strained relationship.

In a series of scathing posts on his social media platform X, Musk declared that without his financial support and influence, Trump would not have reclaimed the White House in the fiercely contested election.

“Without me, Trump would have lost the election, [Democrats] would control the House and the Republicans would be 51-49 in the Senate,” Musk posted. “Such ingratitude.”

$290 Million in Political Donations

Musk, who reportedly donated about $290 million to Trump’s campaign and other Republican candidates in 2024, was instrumental in funding thousands of volunteers across crucial swing states.

In Pennsylvania, a key battleground state, Musk hosted a daily lottery awarding $1 million to individuals who signed onto Republican causes—a move critics called “unethical,” but Republicans defended as “legal mobilization.”

Musk also shared the stage with Trump at several campaign rallies and briefly served in the administration as Secretary of Government Efficiency, a role he left after just 129 days.

Trump Responds: “I Would Have Won Anyway”

Speaking to reporters in the Oval Office earlier Thursday, Trump downplayed Musk’s role, saying:

“I think I would have won… Susie [Wiles] would say I would have won Pennsylvania easily anyway,” referring to his campaign manager-turned-chief of staff.

The remarks appear to have triggered Musk’s online tirade.

Fallout Over Budget Bill

The fallout between the two influential figures comes just days after Musk resigned from his Cabinet role, only to emerge as a vocal critic of Trump’s 2025 budget bill, calling it a:

“Disgusting abomination… Shame on those who voted for it: you know you did wrong.”

The budget—currently working its way through Congress—has sparked controversy for what Musk describes as “bloated spending” and “fiscally irresponsible priorities.”

Trump, addressing Musk’s criticisms, told reporters:

“Elon and I had a great relationship. I don’t know if we will anymore. I was very surprised and disappointed.”

From Allies to Rivals?

The rift marks a dramatic shift in what had been a high-profile alliance. In late May, Trump had presented Musk with a golden key in a public gesture of appreciation for his government service. But now, relations appear to have soured beyond repair.

Musk’s public assertion that his money and influence “delivered Trump the presidency” has sparked fierce debate across the American political spectrum.

Political analysts are now questioning how this feud could impact Republican unity, especially as Congress grapples with major legislation and Democrats eye an opportunity to exploit the divide.
