Western Kenya Leaders Declare Full Support for Ruto’s 2027 Bid, Slam Gachagua’s Tribal Politics
President William Ruto’s 2027 re-election campaign got a major boost on Friday as a wave of lawmakers from the Western region publicly pledged their support, while blasting former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua for “promoting tribalism and divisive politics.”
At a packed women empowerment event in Ikolomani, key leaders from Kakamega, Busia, Vihiga, and Bungoma counties made it clear: Ruto is their man for 2027.
“Tumeamua liwe liwalo, Rais wa Jamuhuri ya Kenya 2027 ni William Samoei Ruto,” thundered Khwisero MP Christopher Aseka, to cheers from the crowd.
United Behind Ruto
The leaders praised President Ruto for what they termed as inclusive leadership, unity-focused governance, and visible development in the region.
Ikolomani MP Bernard Shinali took a swipe at Gachagua, highlighting that during his tenure as Deputy President, Gachagua never once visited the area.
“For two years, Gachagua never set foot here. But President Ruto has always stood with us,” Shinali stated.
Fire at Gachagua’s New Party
The launch of Gachagua’s Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) drew heavy criticism from the Western MPs, who dismissed it as a tribal outfit with no national agenda.
Ruto’s powerful aide, Farouk Kibet, didn’t mince words, branding DCP as a “dangerous distraction” that Kenyans must reject.
“Anyone claiming to lead but incites the country is an enemy of the people,” Kibet said, calling Gachagua’s remarks about 2027 “reckless.”
Aseka questioned why top opposition figures skipped the DCP launch, suggesting it was a silent protest against Gachagua’s alleged tribal leanings and outdated political style.
Women Leaders Rally Behind Unity
Teso South MP Mary Emase and Kakamega Woman Rep Elsie Muhanda pledged their unwavering loyalty to Ruto, lauding his efforts to unite the country and uplift marginalized communities.
“We refuse to be dragged back into divisive politics. We’re walking with the President,” Emase said.
Nambale MP Geoffrey Mulanya and Vihiga’s Beatrice Adagala echoed the sentiment, stating: “We are not ready to go back to the opposition. The West is with Ruto—fully.”
What This Means Politically
This bold show of unity comes as political realignments heat up ahead of the 2027 elections. Gachagua’s recent political maneuvers—including forming a new party—have caused ripples across the Mt. Kenya and Rift Valley regions.
But in Western Kenya, the message is crystal clear: William Ruto has the numbers, and the backing.
