Veteran Radio Host Edward Kwach Dies at 44 After Battle with Meningitis

The Kenyan media fraternity is once again in mourning following the death of veteran radio host Edward Kwach, who passed away on Monday, April 28, 2025, at the age of 44.

Kwach, until his untimely death, was a prominent voice at Spice FM, a station under the Standard Media Group. Known for his wit, warmth, and sharp humour, Kwach earned a loyal following across the country, becoming a beloved figure in Kenya’s radio landscape.

According to a statement released by his family, Kwach succumbed to complications related to meningitis while receiving treatment at Coptic Hospital in Nairobi.

“It is with profound sadness that we announce the untimely passing of our beloved son and brother, Carey, that occurred last night, 28th April 2025, while receiving treatment for meningitis,” the family shared.

Earlier this month, the seasoned broadcaster had been admitted to hospital in critical condition, prompting appeals for blood donations from well-wishers to support his treatment. The public’s response was overwhelming, a testament to the affection and respect Kwach commanded.

In their statement, the family expressed deep gratitude for the support they received during the difficult period.

“His voice became a familiar and trusted companion to many across the country, who tuned in not just for the music but for the warmth and humor he brought to his broadcasts,” they said.

“The support we have received from everyone during Carey’s illness has been overwhelming. We deeply appreciate the generosity of those who donated blood, visited, and held him in their thoughts and prayers.”

Edward Kwach’s death marks yet another heavy loss for Kenya’s media industry, which has seen the passing of several seasoned journalists in recent months.

Funeral and memorial arrangements will be communicated by the family in due course.
