Uasin Gishu: Man Arrested for Setting Up Fake Police Patrol Base in Bold Deception
In a bizarre twist of events, authorities in Uasin Gishu County have apprehended a man who went to extraordinary lengths to establish an illegal police patrol base. The suspect, identified as Collins Leitich, alias Chepkulei, took deception to a new level by setting up an unauthorized security post in Cherus Centre, Kesses sub-county, complete with official police colors to give it a veneer of legitimacy.
The elaborate ruse unraveled when local authorities caught wind of the unauthorized base and swiftly launched an investigation. Officers from Kamuyu Police Post, under Kondoo Police Station, documented the incident under OB04/08/03/2025, confirming that the operation was entirely fraudulent.
Community in Shock
Residents were left astounded upon learning that the patrol base they believed to be a legitimate security initiative was, in reality, a well-crafted illusion.
“We were surprised to learn that the police patrol base was not official. Many of us thought it was a genuine move to enhance security in the area,” remarked a local resident, still grappling with the revelation.
While Leitich’s exact motivations remain shrouded in mystery, authorities have assured the public that justice will be served as investigations continue.
Who Can Establish a Police Station?
According to the National Police Service Act of 2014, the power to designate official police stations rests solely with the Inspector General (IG) of Police. These stations serve as command hubs for law enforcement, handling crime reports, processing complaints against police misconduct, and ensuring the safety of the public.
With Leitich now in custody, the authorities have urged citizens to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to prevent similar incidents in the future. Meanwhile, the investigation into this audacious attempt to impersonate law enforcement continues, raising more questions than answers about the suspect’s ultimate intentions.
