Tragedy Strikes as Nairobi Teacher Dies While Playing with Pupils

A somber mood engulfed Nadhir Integrated Academy and the Pangani community after a beloved teacher collapsed and died while playing with students during a soccer session.

James Mathenge, a dedicated primary school teacher, was supervising an afternoon soccer game at Sir Ali Muslim Academy playground when he suddenly developed breathing complications and collapsed. The incident occurred around 3 p.m.

According to eyewitnesses, efforts were made to rush him to a nearby clinic, but he was pronounced dead on arrival. Police later arrived at the scene and recorded statements from witnesses. The body was moved to the mortuary, where an autopsy is expected to determine the cause of death.

Police have launched an investigation into the incident, which brought the soccer session to an abrupt and tragic end.

In a separate incident, a 14-year-old boy lost his life in Dandora after being electrocuted while washing a lorry. According to police, the juvenile had been helping clean the vehicle outside a petrol station when he stepped on a live wire lying on the wet ground. The driver who had requested the cleaning raised the alarm after realizing the boy had collapsed.

The body was taken to the mortuary as police begin investigations into how the exposed wire came to be in the area.

Meanwhile, in Kiptoror area of Trans Nzoia County, the body of a 75-year-old man identified as John Wanjala was discovered outside his home after he failed to return from a visit to the local shopping center. Police who examined the scene reported no visible injuries. His body was moved to the Kitale County Referral Hospital mortuary pending an autopsy.

Elsewhere in Malaba, Busia County, authorities are investigating the death of 35-year-old Alfred Mbati, who died shortly after complaining of hunger. Witnesses say Mbati had asked for food and warm water before he was later found lying unresponsive on an open ground. His body was taken to the mortuary for post-mortem and further inquiries.

These heartbreaking incidents have sparked fresh conversations around safety in schools, public spaces, and the need for urgent social support across Kenya.
