Three Suspected Robbers Arrested Along Mombasa-Nairobi Highway
VOI, TAITA-TAVETA – Police in Voi, Taita-Taveta County, have arrested three suspected robbers who had been on the run for an undisclosed period. The trio was intercepted along the Mombasa-Nairobi highway on Tuesday in a coordinated operation by detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
The suspects, identified as Joseph Mwangi (40), Peter Maina (36), and Agnes Mshenga (32), were traveling in a white Subaru Legacy with the registration number KCJ 842Z when they were nabbed. Upon conducting a thorough search of the vehicle, authorities uncovered three sets of reflective number plates – KCR 879U, KCA 583L, and KAZ 946L.
Additionally, police recovered an assortment of suspicious items, including jungle uniforms, a kitchen knife, two Maasai swords, and a mechanic’s toolkit. The toolkit contained spanners, a jack, pressure pumps, puncture repair tools, brake pads, and various house-breaking implements. The trio is currently being held at the Voi police station pending their arraignment.
Government Stores Recovered in Kitui County
Meanwhile, in Kitui County, authorities arrested a man and recovered government-issued items at his residence in Itiko village. The suspect, Ernest Musyoka (33), was apprehended following allegations of making death threats and assault.
During a search of Musyoka’s house, police found items believed to belong to the Administration Police (AP), including sweaters, jungle belts, trousers, black berets, jungle t-shirts, and green socks. Officers also recovered an NYS green sweater and two NYS shirts, further raising concerns about how these items ended up in his possession.
Musyoka is currently being detained at Mutitu police station as investigations continue. Authorities have urged the public to report any suspicious individuals or activities that may pose a security threat.
The arrests underscore the ongoing efforts by law enforcement agencies to crack down on crime and ensure public safety across the country. The police have reiterated their commitment to maintaining law and order as investigations into both cases continue.
