Super Metro Suspends Services for 3 Days to Finalize Compliance
City transport giant Super Metro Limited has announced a temporary three-day suspension of its operations to comply fully with road safety directives from the National Transport and Safety Authority (NTSA) and the Transport Licensing Appeals Board (TLAB).
In a statement released on Monday, April 14, Super Metro said it has already achieved 90% compliance with the regulatory requirements issued after its operations were first suspended on March 20. The initial suspension was due to alleged violations, including expired inspection certificates, outdated speed limiter certificates, and unqualified driver credentials.
“Following a hearing with the Transport Licensing Appeals Board today, the Board has directed Super Metro Limited to suspend operations for the next three days to finalise the remaining compliance measures,” read a statement from Super Metro’s Facebook page.
The Sacco emphasized its commitment to road safety and passenger satisfaction, noting that this short suspension is necessary to ensure full adherence to the law.
“We are working diligently to address the outstanding compliance issues within the stipulated timeframe and will resume operations as soon as we receive approval from the relevant authorities,” the company added.
NTSA’s Compliance Conditions
NTSA had earlier outlined several conditions for the reinstatement of Super Metro’s operating license:
- Presenting 294 vehicles with violations for inspection at the Likoni Motor Vehicle Inspection Centre.
- Obtaining compliance reports for all inspected vehicles.
- Presenting 42 drivers—out of 109 previously flagged for speed violations—for a retest at the Likoni Driver Test Centre.
The authority noted that during a retest held on March 10, 64 Super Metro drivers failed and had their licenses suspended.
Super Metro has reaffirmed its respect for the decisions made by the TLAB and the courts, pledging full cooperation with all regulatory agencies.
“Super Metro Limited remains dedicated to providing safe, reliable, and efficient transport services, and we appreciate your understanding and support during this period,” the company concluded.
Passenger Disruptions
The suspension, though temporary, is expected to inconvenience many city commuters who rely on Super Metro for their daily transportation. However, the company has expressed confidence that all compliance issues will be resolved swiftly to allow for a full return to service.
