Super Metro Matatu Tragedy: Passenger Thrown Out of Moving Bus Over Fare Dispute, Dies on the Spot
A tragic incident along Thika Road has left many Kenyans in shock after a passenger, identified as Gilbert Thuo Kimani, was allegedly thrown out of a moving Super Metro matatu following a heated dispute over fare charges.
Fatal Fare Dispute
According to eyewitness reports, the altercation began when Gilbert boarded a Super Metro bus (registration number KDL 125N) heading to Kahawa Wendani. The conductor allegedly demanded KSh 80, but Gilbert only had KSh 50, leading to a disagreement. As tensions escalated, the bus continued its journey, and in a shocking turn of events, Gilbert was reportedly pushed out of the moving vehicle by the conductor.
Some witnesses claim that he was forcefully ejected, while others suggest he attempted to alight before the bus had come to a complete stop. Unfortunately, Gilbert was fatally run over, sustaining severe injuries that led to his immediate death.

Police Investigations Underway
Following the incident, traffic officers from Kahawa Wendani impounded the vehicle, and the driver was taken into custody. However, the conductor, who is considered the main suspect, fled the scene and remains at large.
A preliminary postmortem report confirmed that Gilbert suffered multiple fractures, including broken ribs, arms, and legs, indicating the severity of the impact. His body was later transferred to General Kago Mortuary as his family began making funeral arrangements.
Public Outcry and Super Metro’s Response
News of the incident has sparked widespread outrage, with Kenyans condemning reckless behavior in the public transport sector. Many have called for swift justice and better regulation of matatu operators to prevent similar tragedies.
Despite the backlash, Super Metro has denied any wrongdoing. A company representative, Mr. Muturi, stated that the deceased attempted to alight while the bus was still in motion and lost his footing.
“If he had been pushed out, he wouldn’t have been run over by the same bus. He would have landed at a distance,” Muturi argued, dismissing claims that the tout was responsible.
As investigations continue, authorities have assured the public that those found culpable will be brought to justice. The tragic incident serves as a grim reminder of the need for improved safety measures in Kenya’s public transport sector.
