Senior Traffic Officer Among Two Killed in Narok-Mai Mahiu Highway Crash
A senior police officer and another individual lost their lives in a fatal road accident on Saturday night, June 28, 2025, along the Narok-Mai Mahiu highway.
The crash, which occurred at around 10:00 p.m. near Duka Moja, involved a Scania trailer, a Toyota Prado TX, and a Toyota G-Touring.
According to preliminary police investigations, the Scania trailer was en route from Narok to Mai Mahiu when its driver veered into the oncoming lane, colliding head-on with the Toyota Prado.
The Prado was being driven by Chief Inspector George Rotich Kipchumba, a senior officer attached to the Narok Traffic Base. The force of the collision propelled the Prado into a Toyota G-Touring coming from the opposite direction.
Both Chief Inspector Kipchumba and the unidentified driver of the trailer died on the spot.
A passenger in the Prado sustained serious head injuries and was rushed to Narok County Referral Hospital. Four unidentified passengers in the Scania trailer also sustained injuries and were admitted to the same hospital.
The bodies of the deceased were taken to Narok County Referral Hospital mortuary for identification and postmortem.
Authorities are conducting further investigations into the incident. The accident has reignited public concern over road safety and reckless driving on Kenyan highways, particularly in known black spots such as the Narok-Mai Mahiu stretch.
Road safety advocates continue to call for stricter enforcement of traffic rules, enhanced driver training, and regular vehicle inspections to help curb the rising number of fatalities on Kenyan roads.
