Ruto, Raila Sign Historic Political Pact at KICC
In a landmark political move, President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga have officially signed a coalition agreement, bringing the Kenya Kwanza and Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) parties into a working partnership. The highly anticipated event took place at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre (KICC) on Friday, March 7, marking a significant shift in Kenya’s political landscape.
The agreement, dubbed the Kenya Kwanza-ODM Framework Agreement, was witnessed by Members of Parliament allied to both leaders, as well as Deputy President Kithure Kindiki. The pact signals a new era of cooperation between the two major political forces, effectively reshaping the country’s governance structure.
A Call for Unity and Equity
ODM Party Chairperson Gladys Wanga hailed the agreement as a step toward greater national cohesion, emphasizing the importance of unity beyond individual political ambitions.
“The unity, stability, and prosperity of this country is not the responsibility of a few; it is the responsibility of all of us as a nation. While we may have different political persuasions and come from different parts of the country, nobody can fault unity or equity,” she stated.
She further noted that both Ruto and Raila have experienced all facets of Kenya’s political system, making their unity a momentous development that will benefit young people, women, and marginalized communities.
“This unity that you have put together today is not about the two of you. Baba has seen it all, and the President has held all positions in government. This is about Kenyans who have felt like they have never been part of the country,” Wanga added.
UDA Party Chairperson Cecily Mbarire echoed these sentiments, stating that the pact demonstrated the priority of national interests over personal or party considerations.
“Today, we’re reminded yet again that the nation will always remain bigger than individual and party interests. I am happy that this agreement is being signed openly, rather than behind closed doors,” Mbarire remarked. “It has taken serious consultations through party structures to get here, and I am pleased that Kenyans now have clarity on
