Ruto Appoints Charles Nyachae, Former MP & Ex-PS to Government Positions
President William Ruto has re-appointed Charles Nyachae as Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government (KSG), according to a gazette notice released on Saturday.
Nyachae, who had recently been shortlisted for the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairmanship, will now continue serving at the helm of KSG for a further three-year term.
“In exercise of the powers conferred by section 6(1)(a) of the Kenya School of Government Act, I, William Samoei Ruto, President of the Republic of Kenya and Commander-in-Chief of the Defence Forces, re-appoint Charles Nyachae to be the Non-Executive Chairperson of the Kenya School of Government Council, for three (3) years,” the gazette notice read in part.
Nyachae’s previous term ended on July 12, 2025, after serving from January 24, 2024. His reappointment comes just days after he failed to secure the top IEBC role, which eventually went to Erastus Ethekon.
In addition to Nyachae’s reappointment, Ruto named two other individuals to key public roles:
- Former Lafey MP Abdi Mude Ibrahim has been appointed Chairperson of the Board of Directors at the Kenya Veterinary Vaccines Production Institute. He will serve for three years.
- Former Cooperatives Principal Secretary Ali Noor Ismail has been appointed as Chairperson of the Pest Control Products Board, also for a three-year term.
Nyachae’s bid for the IEBC position faced legal hurdles after a petitioner filed a case to block his and Joy Midivo’s interviews, citing their ongoing roles in public institutions. The petitioner argued that their inclusion on the shortlist violated the constitution and principles of good governance.
The High Court had been asked to issue conservatory orders, citing that Nyachae, by virtue of his role at the Kenya School of Government, was a state officer and therefore ineligible for appointment to the IEBC.
Despite the petition, Nyachae’s leadership at the KSG has now been extended, signaling President Ruto’s continued trust in his governance and administrative experience.
