Rigathi Gachagua Declares War on Ruto in 2027: “We Will Send Him Home”
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has boldly declared that his political faction is determined to unseat President William Ruto in the 2027 General Election—with or without the support of ODM leader Raila Odinga.
Speaking during a church service at the Gospel Confirmation Center in Machakos, Gachagua criticized Ruto’s leadership and dismissed the notion that Raila’s support was crucial for his camp’s victory.
“We Made Ruto President, Now We Will Remove Him”
Gachagua did not mince words in his address, claiming that it was his faction that propelled Ruto to power in 2022. However, he accused the president of betraying his allies and assured his supporters that a new political formation was in motion.
“We told William Ruto we would make him president. And we did. Then he turned his back on us, and we parted ways with him. We are now in a new formation. Even if Raila Odinga wants to partner with us, there is no problem. Our journey is unstoppable with or without him,” Gachagua said.
The former deputy president emphasized that the opposition was not desperate for Raila’s backing, as their own numbers were sufficient to defeat Ruto.
“And we are not desperate for his participation. The numbers are good. We have interrogated our numbers, and they are good. So defeating Ruto in 2027 will be an easy task,” he asserted.
Is Ruto Depending on Raila for Political Survival?
Gachagua went on to claim that Ruto’s political survival now heavily depends on Raila’s influence. He argued that without Raila’s backing, the president’s hold on power would be in jeopardy.
“The president’s current life support is Raila Odinga. If we switch it off, it will be the end of Ruto,” he declared.
Gachagua also assured his supporters that the Gikuyu, Embu, Meru, and Akamba (GEMA) communities would play a key role in determining Kenya’s next leadership.
“GEMA is the key to Kenya’s future. GEMA will form the next government,” he declared. “We have analyzed the figures, and they look good—with or without Raila.”
Gachagua Predicts Ruto Will Finish Third or Fourth in 2027
According to Gachagua, Ruto will not only lose the presidency but will struggle to even finish second in the polls.
“In the 2027 General Election, Ruto will finish in third or fourth position,” he predicted.
He maintained that if the GEMA community remained united, they would hold power for decades to come.
“If we stand together as GEMA, we will be in power for the next 100 years,” he boldly proclaimed.
Can Raila Work with Gachagua?
Gachagua’s recent remarks come after he previously extended an invitation to Raila Odinga to align with the opposition in an effort to unseat Ruto. Speaking at his Karen residence during an interview with Kamba vernacular radio stations on February 24, Gachagua expressed willingness to work with Raila, emphasizing that their combined efforts could mobilize Kenyans against the current administration.
As Gachagua builds a new political outfit following his impeachment in October 2024, he has already engaged with opposition figures like Kalonzo Musyoka and Martha Karua, signaling a possible major political realignment ahead of 2027.
The question remains: Will Raila take up Gachagua’s offer, or will he choose to chart his own course? As the 2027 election draws closer, the battle lines are being drawn, and Kenya’s political landscape is shifting once again. Stay tuned for more updates on Nairobian.
