Rigathi Gachagua Alleges Assassination Plot Involving Chemical Attack and Fabricated Charges
Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader Rigathi Gachagua has made startling claims, alleging an elaborate government plot to assassinate him using airborne chemical agents and planted weapons. The former Deputy President made the remarks on Monday, May 19, during a press briefing that has since sent shockwaves through Kenya’s political landscape.
According to Gachagua, his security team intercepted intelligence around 2:30 PM on Sunday, indicating a plan to plant weapons in his convoy. He claims this was part of a broader scheme to fabricate criminal charges against him to justify his arrest.
But even more disturbing was his allegation that a second group, allegedly trained in biological and chemical warfare, had joined the operation. Gachagua said the plan involved poisoning him with airborne chemicals designed to gradually paralyse his brain within three months.
“The instructions were to poison me through inhaled chemicals that would paralyse my brain within three months. This was the intent of the whole operation,” Gachagua alleged.
He added that after receiving the tip-off, his team swiftly changed their travel route, guided by security operatives whom he described as “sympathetic insiders.”
Withdrawal of Security Detail
Gachagua also accused President William Ruto of ordering the withdrawal of his private security detail, warning that the move would leave him exposed to attacks. “Their licenses are being revoked. This is not just political intimidation; it is a life-threatening move,” he said.
Drawing parallels with the late Kenneth Matiba, a prominent figure who suffered neurological damage under Moi’s regime, Gachagua claimed the current government’s tactics resemble past authoritarian methods aimed at silencing dissent.
“The government wanted to plant weapons on my convoy and wanted to use chemicals so that they could paralyse our brains as they did to Kenneth Matiba,” he claimed.
Calls for Investigation
Gachagua has now demanded an independent investigation into the alleged plot, urging both local and international human rights bodies to take up the matter. “This is no longer about politics. It is about human rights and democracy. I call on all freedom-loving Kenyans to stand up and speak out,” he urged.
Public Reactions Mixed
While some Kenyans on social media expressed shock and sympathy, others called for the former deputy president to provide concrete evidence to support his claims. The government has yet to issue an official response to the allegations.
The claims by Gachagua come at a time when Kenya is grappling with deepening political rifts, and rising concerns about shrinking democratic space and freedom of expression.
