Raila Joins Ruto at National Executive Retreat in Kajiado
ODM leader Raila Odinga on Thursday joined President William Ruto at the ongoing National Executive retreat in Kajiado County, marking a rare display of political unity amid rising public scrutiny over government spending and leadership.
The high-level meeting, chaired by Ruto and now in its second day, aims to evaluate service delivery, discuss intergovernmental collaboration, and review the role of the legislature in national development.
Also present are Deputy President Kithure Kindiki, Prime Cabinet Secretary Musalia Mudavadi, key economic advisors David Ndii and Monica Juma, and Head of Public Service Felix Koskei. Auditor General Nancy Gathungu is expected to present a report highlighting the need for greater government transparency and accountability.
“We remain focused as we build synergies that will spur our economic growth,” Ruto said in his opening remarks, acknowledging the tough decisions his administration has had to make in order to steer the country towards economic stability.
Raila’s presence at the retreat has sparked speculation about possible bipartisan cooperation ahead of the 2027 elections, though no formal announcements have been made.
However, the retreat has drawn criticism on social media, with many Kenyans questioning the rationale behind hosting lavish government events during a time of economic hardship. Citizens continue to reel from rising taxes, inflation, and high unemployment, leading to renewed calls for austerity and reforms.
As the retreat continues, all eyes remain on what tangible outcomes—if any—will emerge from the closed-door deliberations.
