President Ruto Dodges Flying Shoe During Migori Tour, Stays Calm Amid Security Scare
President William Ruto narrowly avoided injury on Sunday after a shoe was hurled at him during a public address in Migori County. The incident occurred while the President was engaging residents during his ongoing developmental tour of the region.
In a video clip seen by The Nairobian, an unidentified individual threw what appeared to be a shoe in the President’s direction. The object flew past him, narrowly missing, before falling harmlessly to the ground.
Despite the unexpected interruption, President Ruto remained composed. He paused briefly, then resumed his speech without further incident. Members of the presidential security team quickly moved in to shield the Head of State and restore order.
The attempted assault has triggered widespread debate online. While many condemned the act as disrespectful and dangerous, others used the moment to express growing discontent over the country’s political and economic conditions.
During his address, President Ruto reiterated his administration’s focus on unity and development. “We must move forward together as one nation. Our goal is to ensure that every region receives the development it deserves,” he said.
Earlier in the day, President Ruto attended an Interdenominational Prayer Service at Kadika Primary School in Suna East, before heading to Piny Oyie to open the Suna East Sub County Office and lay the foundation stone for Suna West Technical and Vocational College.
“We are strengthening our local administration to ensure it is fully equipped to serve the people efficiently,” Ruto stated. “This new college will expand technical training opportunities for youth in the region.”
He later proceeded to Kuria West, where he broke ground for the 298-unit Kehancha Affordable Housing Project.
“We are implementing a transformative development agenda that will ensure that no part of our country is marginalised or left behind,” he added.
No injuries were reported in connection to the shoe-throwing incident, and the suspect was reportedly subdued by security personnel at the scene. Authorities have launched investigations into the matter.
