Peter Salasya Explains Source of Funds for His Countrywide Tours

Mumias East MP Peter Salasya has broken his silence over the funding of his countrywide tours aimed at popularising his 2027 presidential ambitions.

Taking to Instagram on Saturday night, Salasya categorically denied receiving funds from any external source, including the ruling United Democratic Alliance (UDA) party or State House.

The first-term MP, elected under the Democratic Action Party of Kenya (DAP-K), clarified that he relies solely on his salary as a legislator to finance his political travels.

“For those asking where I get money to traverse Kenya like a village. I have no children I am taking to international schools or taking my family to an expensive vacation because I’m not married. So my money doesn’t have many responsibilities,” Salasya posted.

He argued that being single and without children affords him the financial flexibility to fund his nationwide engagements. According to him, critics questioning the sustainability of his tours are spreading misinformation and failing to acknowledge his lifestyle choices.

Salasya also addressed longstanding rumours that he is a political project of UDA or a beneficiary of state funds. In a strongly worded Instagram post dated May 10, 2025, the MP dismissed such claims as unfounded and malicious.

“Let me be crystal clear, for the avoidance of doubt: I am NOT a UDA project. I am NOT funded by State House. I have NEVER received a single cent—let alone Ksh 40 million—from Katoo Ole Metito or any government official. Full stop,” he stated.

He described the accusations as cheap propaganda aimed at undermining his growing influence, warning detractors that his grassroots movement is based on genuine public support.

“These claims are nothing but cheap, lazy propaganda manufactured by cowards who are terrified of the political wave I am building across the nation. They can’t match the momentum, they can’t match the courage, and they can’t match the connection I have with the people,” Salasya added.

The MP’s political activities continue to attract nationwide attention as he positions himself among youthful contenders eyeing the 2027 presidential race.
