ODM Leaders Urge Muturi to Present Corruption Evidence Against Ruto to Authorities
Leaders from the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) have called on former Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi to present any corruption evidence he has against President William Ruto to the appropriate authorities instead of using it for political gain.
The backlash follows a recent interview on NTV where Muturi labeled Ruto as unfit to lead Kenya, accusing him of being deeply entangled in corruption scandals, including the controversial Adani deal. Muturi claimed Ruto’s involvement in the scandal is a glaring indicator of systemic corruption within his administration.
Speaking at the Eid Baraza in Mombasa on Saturday, ODM leaders urged Muturi to table any incriminating evidence before legally mandated bodies like the Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC) and the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI).
“Anyone who has evidence of ill-doing against the people of Kenya should not use it for political gain. They must take it to the right authorities, such as the EACC and DCI for proper investigation and justice,” said Mombasa Governor Abdulswamad Sheriff Nassir.
The leaders questioned why Muturi had chosen not to pursue formal channels if he genuinely held actionable proof. They stressed the importance of using legal institutions to handle such sensitive claims, warning against using corruption allegations as political ammunition.
“Justin Muturi has made strong claims. We urge him to take any evidence he has to the relevant authorities to ensure a transparent investigation so that the people of Kenya can know the truth,” they added.
Additionally, ODM called for a parliamentary motion to be introduced to facilitate open discussions on the matter, highlighting the need for transparency and due process.
During his NTV interview, Muturi expressed disbelief at Ruto’s public anti-corruption stance, asking, “When I hear William Ruto speaking about corruption, I start wondering, who is this person talking about corruption? Is it because he is corrupt himself?”
While Muturi stopped short of giving detailed evidence, he referenced the Adani deal and said he had insider knowledge. He claimed that during COP28 in Dubai in 2023, he received critical information from Ruto’s advisor, Adam Mum, implicating the President in the controversial agreement.
The ball is now in Muturi’s court, as pressure mounts for him to formalize his claims through official channels rather than through media interviews.
