Nyamira Tragedy: University Student Dies After Brutal Beating by His Uncles
Police in Nyamira County are investigating a shocking incident in which a 22-year-old Chuka University student died after a merciless caning by his uncles in Nyankono village, North Mugirango Constituency.
A Deadly “Discipline” Gone Too Far
The victim, identified as Brian Mogaka, had reportedly been suspended from Chuka University over allegations of cannabis abuse. In response, his mother, Teresa Mogaka, is said to have sought help from her brothers to discipline him.
Instead of a reprimand, Mogaka suffered hours of non-stop caning at the hands of his uncles, who tied his hands and legs before delivering a merciless beating. Tragically, he succumbed to his injuries during the ordeal.
Desperate Cover-Up Attempt
Realizing he had died, the suspects changed Mogaka’s clothes, laid him in bed, and planted a bottle of cattle pesticide beside him in an attempt to stage the scene and mislead investigators. They then fled the scene, leaving the family in shock.
Police Investigations Underway
Officers from Ekerenyo Police Station, alongside investigating officers, arrived at the crime scene on Tuesday night and moved the body to Nyamira Teaching and Referral Hospital for a post-mortem examination.
Ikonge Assistant Chief Joseph Masese confirmed that Mogaka’s body bore multiple bruises and severe injuries from caning, making it evident that he had suffered extreme physical abuse.
Justice for Mogaka?
As police intensify their manhunt for the runaway suspects, Nyamira residents are calling for swift justice in what they describe as a barbaric and inhumane act.
This tragic incident highlights the dangers of violent disciplinary measures, raising serious concerns about excessive punishment within families.
