Nairobi MPs Slam Governor Sakaja Over Alleged Neglect and Poor Leadership

A section of Nairobi Members of Parliament has launched a scathing attack on Governor Johnson Sakaja, accusing him of neglecting his responsibilities and running the city with what they termed as “a lack of inclusivity and accountability.”

Speaking during a joint interview on Citizen TV, the lawmakers expressed deep concern over the governor’s alleged disregard for collaboration with elected leaders and failure to address key challenges facing Nairobi residents.

“Nairobi is on the verge of a service delivery crisis. The governor continues to ignore the very leaders who represent the people. This kind of unilateral leadership is unsustainable,” said one of the MPs.

The MPs pointed to worsening conditions in waste management, poor drainage systems, and a growing dissatisfaction among city dwellers due to delayed county services. They alleged that Governor Sakaja’s administration has consistently shut out MPs and MCAs from key decisions that directly affect their constituencies.

“You cannot fix Nairobi without working hand in hand with those on the ground. The governor must stop treating this city like a one-man show,” another legislator added.

The lawmakers urged Sakaja to embrace dialogue and transparency, warning that continued exclusion of elected representatives could deepen the city’s already strained governance structures.

This public confrontation comes amid growing pressure on the county leadership to show tangible progress since taking office. Many residents have voiced frustrations over stalled development projects, traffic congestion, and inconsistent enforcement of city regulations.

Governor Sakaja has yet to respond directly to the accusations. However, his communications team has previously stated that the county is committed to transforming Nairobi into a modern, well-run capital and that several long-term initiatives are already underway.

Still, political analysts say the current standoff signals a widening rift that could complicate governance in the capital, especially if tensions between the county and national lawmakers remain unresolved.

As the city waits to see whether the governor will reach out to defuse the growing discontent, Nairobians continue to demand more effective leadership and results that match campaign promises.
