Margaret Were Claims Her Life Is in Danger After Husband, MP Ong’ondo Were, Is Shot Dead

The tragic assassination of Kasipul Member of Parliament Charles Ong’ondo Were has taken a chilling turn, as his widow, Margaret Were, now claims that her life is also in imminent danger.

Speaking emotionally to mourners at their Kasipul home, Margaret disclosed that she had narrowly escaped an attack prior to her husband’s fatal shooting on Nairobi’s Ngong Road. She alleged that unknown individuals had followed her on two separate occasions as she commuted to work in the capital.

“Whoever did this! I have also been followed twice while going to work. I know I am not safe. Please pray for me,” said Margaret, visibly shaken and grief-stricken.

Margaret believes that the attackers who killed her husband may also be targeting members of his immediate family. She called on security agencies to take swift action and ensure justice is served, not only for her slain husband but also for the safety of the surviving family members.

Charles Ong’ondo Were was gunned down on Wednesday, April 30, shortly after leaving Parliament Buildings. Reports indicate that the MP was trailed by assailants riding a sports motorbike from the CBD to the City Mortuary Roundabout along Ngong Road. There, one of the attackers dismounted and opened fire directly at the MP’s seat. He was rushed to The Nairobi Hospital but was pronounced dead on arrival.

At the time of his murder, the MP was using his son’s Toyota Crown, possibly in an effort to avoid being tracked, as he had left his official vehicle behind.

Margaret expressed the weight of the responsibility now on her shoulders, stating that the MP had left behind a very young family, including a daughter currently in Grade 9 at Moi Kabarak. She pledged to continue leading the family with dignity and appealed for emotional and spiritual support from the public.

“He has left very huge shoes for me to fit into. Please pray for our daughter to remain strong. To my in-laws, I love you all, and we will continue living like we did before the MP’s death,” she said.

As investigations continue, Kenyans are demanding justice and increased protection for the bereaved family. The motive behind the brutal killing remains unclear, but the boldness and precision of the attack have raised serious concerns over the security of public figures in the country.
