Safaricom’s 2025 annual report has revealed detailed remuneration figures for its directors, indicating substantial earnings among the top executives and non-executive board members.
Changes in Board Composition
Effective January 15, 2025, Edward Okaro was appointed as an independent non-executive director. He joined an existing team that included James Ludlow, John Kipngetich Mosonik, Winnie Ouko, Raisibe Morathi, Murielle Lorilloux, and Mohamed Shameel Aziz Joosub.
Combined Payout
For the fiscal year ending March 2025, Safaricom’s directors collectively earned KSh 511.4 million.
Directors’ Remuneration Structure
- Chairman of the Board: Annual fee of KSh 8.5 million
- Non-Executive Directors: KSh 3 million per annum
- Sitting Allowances:
- Chairman: KSh 230,000 per meeting
- Committee Chair: KSh 125,000 per meeting
- Non-Executive Director: KSh 110,000 per meeting
- Other Benefits: Telephone and internet usage allowance
Safaricom stated that the remuneration structure was developed in consultation with PricewaterhouseCoopers (PwC) through the Board Nominations and Remuneration Committee.

Company Performance
Safaricom reported a 7.3% rise in net profit for the fiscal year ending March 30, 2025, with earnings reaching KSh 45.8 billion, up from KSh 42.6 billion in the previous year. CEO Peter Ndegwa attributed this growth to digitisation and continuous innovation in service delivery.
