Kuria Alleges Gachagua Funded 2023 Raid on Uhuru’s Northlands Farm
In a dramatic twist to the ongoing political fallout within Kenya Kwanza ranks, former Trade Cabinet Secretary and current presidential economic advisor Moses Kuria has accused ex-Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua of orchestrating the infamous 2023 raid on retired President Uhuru Kenyatta’s Northlands farm.
Kuria’s remarks came in response to statements made by Gachagua during his tour of the United States, where the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP) leader accused Kuria and Deputy President Kithure Kindiki of funding chaos during the recent Gen Z-led anti-government protests.
According to Gachagua, the two leaders allegedly collaborated with former Mungiki leader Maina Njenga to destabilize the Mt. Kenya region on orders from President William Ruto. Gachagua accused them of orchestrating unrest to undermine his political base.
“I’m not insulting anyone but those people, it seems they gave their minds to Ruto. The recent violence was organised by Soprano (Kindiki) and Moses Kuria, the one who claimed he had resigned,” said Gachagua. “If you saw the photo they took with Maina Njenga holding hands and laughing, it’s because they had planned all this. Kuria didn’t resign; he was assigned to destroy the mountain.”
In a fiery rebuttal posted on X, Kuria admitted to working with Maina Njenga but said he learned the strategy from Gachagua himself. He further alleged that Gachagua personally paid Njenga and his group to attack Northlands in 2023, during opposition-led Azimio protests.
“Rigathi Gachagua has accused me during his US tour of funding and supporting Maina Njenga. I am guilty as charged. I learnt from the best. I was in the room when Rigathi paid the same people money to steal Uhuru Kenyatta’s goats from Northlands,” Kuria posted.
The raid on Northlands Farm, which occurred in March 2023, involved a mob that vandalized property, looted livestock, and set parts of the farm ablaze. At the time, the motive and identity of the attackers remained unclear, though suspicions pointed toward political motives.
Kuria’s revelation adds a new dimension to the incident, suggesting it may have been politically orchestrated at the highest levels.
With both leaders now publicly exchanging explosive accusations, the internal rift within the ruling coalition appears to be deepening ahead of the 2027 elections, as Mount Kenya’s political alignment continues to shift.
State House and DP Kindiki’s office are yet to issue statements in response to the allegations.
