Koimburi Faked Abduction for Political Mileage, Say Police
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and the National Police Service (NPS) have unearthed what they describe as a politically motivated hoax involving Juja Member of Parliament George Koimburi. In a shocking revelation, police say the MP stage-managed his own abduction before spending the night at a hotel.
Speaking at the DCI headquarters along Kiambu Road, DCI Director Amin Mohamed confirmed that the lawmaker’s movements were tracked from church to the hotel where he spent the night, debunking claims of a kidnapping. “We’ve accounted for all his movements and identified the hotel and the room where he slept,” said Mohamed.
The incident, which initially sparked political tension, now appears to have been a calculated ploy. Investigators believe Koimburi collaborated with close associates to orchestrate the abduction, allegedly in a bid to gain public sympathy and stir unrest.
Three individuals—Peter Kiratu (Juja CDF chairman), Cyrus Kieru Muhia, and Karanja Gatana—are currently under investigation for their roles in the scheme. According to police, Muhia, a Kahawa West businessman, lent out his Subaru Forester at Kiratu’s request under the guise of offering extra security during a church visit.
On May 25, the group met in Mugutha before heading to the church to scout the route. Later, the Subaru was driven to the church with two men who dramatically staged Koimburi’s forceful abduction. Screams were reportedly heard as the MP was dragged into the vehicle.
The car then drove toward Jacaranda Coffee Research via Kambogo Road, where Koimburi instructed them to stop near Kiratu’s Honda CRV. Muhia, left behind with two men, was warned not to speak to police.
Authorities also expressed concern over being blocked from interrogating the MP at the hospital following his alleged rescue, further raising red flags.
The DCI and NPS say they will press charges once investigations conclude. “We wonder why a Member of Parliament would stage such an incident just to create political tension,” said Inspector General of Police Douglas Kanja.
As Kenyans await the full outcome of the investigation, the incident has ignited fresh debate over the lengths some politicians may go for political mileage.
