Kisumu Manhunt: Ex-Boyfriend Stabs Woman Over Breakup in Shocking Attack
Police in Kisumu East have launched a manhunt for a suspect who brutally attacked his 24-year-old ex-girlfriend, allegedly for leaving him for another man. The disturbing incident occurred in Nyakbong’ village of Kamjulu, where the woman was staying with her current boyfriend.
According to a report from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI), the suspect, Sebi Obonyo, ambushed the woman around 4:45 p.m. on Friday, stabbing her twice—once in the left ear and again in the chest—with a sharp object.
“Sebi Obonyo is reported to have accosted the lady at her current boyfriend’s house within Nyakbong’ village of Kamjulu, stabbing her twice on the left ear and chest with a sharp object,” the DCI report stated.
Neighbours to the Rescue
The woman’s screams alerted neighbors, who rushed to the scene and managed to whisk her to Jaramogi Oginga Odinga Teaching and Referral Hospital. She was admitted in critical condition and is currently undergoing treatment.
The attacker, however, fled the scene before the neighbors could apprehend him. Police say he is still at large, and a manhunt is ongoing to bring him to justice.
Motive Behind the Crime
Preliminary investigations suggest that jealousy was the main motive behind the vicious attack. Authorities believe Obonyo acted out of rage after learning that his ex-girlfriend had moved on with another man.
Police have warned that the suspect is dangerous and urged anyone with information on his whereabouts to report to the nearest police station immediately.
Call for Justice
Gender-based violence activists have condemned the attack and are calling for urgent action to protect women from such heinous crimes. The case has sparked conversations online, with many demanding stricter laws and faster justice for victims of domestic violence.
