Kisii Horror: Man Allegedly Murders Wife, Feeds Her Flesh to Children Before Mob Justice
A sleepy village in Nyamache sub-county, Kisii County, has been thrust into national attention following a macabre incident that has left residents in shock and disbelief. A 55-year-old man, Stephen Onserio, is alleged to have brutally murdered his wife, Evelyne Nyaboke, and committed one of the most gruesome acts of cannibalism ever reported in the region.
According to witnesses, suspicions were first raised when Onserio was seen roaming the village of Sugubo in Nyacheki ward with his two-year-old child, appearing confused and erratic. His wife’s prolonged absence began to raise eyebrows, especially as neighbours noticed that he was often accompanied by their two children, but never his spouse.
Concerned locals decided to confront Onserio after days without any sign of Evelyne. When pressed, the suspect claimed she had travelled to her rural home. However, his vague answers did not sit well with the community. A group of villagers followed him to his house, where they were met with a disturbing smell that only heightened their alarm.
Upon forcing their way into the house, residents were met with a grotesque sight—pieces of what appeared to be cooked and raw meat scattered around the home. The strong suspicion that the meat was human led to an immediate confrontation. It was during this tense moment that Onserio reportedly confessed to killing his wife and feeding her flesh to their children.
“Some of the meat had been chopped up and cooked. He said he killed her and had been feeding their children parts of her body,” recounted Boniface Emmanuel, one of the first people at the scene. He also alleged that this was not the first time Onserio had committed such a heinous crime, claiming the man had killed a previous wife back in 2007.
The news sent shockwaves through the village. Furious and overwhelmed by the horrific confession, residents took the law into their own hands. Before police could intervene, an enraged mob descended on Onserio, dragging him out of his home and lynching him just metres away.
Nyamache Sub-County Police Commander Kipkemoi Kipkulei confirmed the incident, revealing that the suspect was killed before law enforcement arrived. A search of his house uncovered a human skull and a decomposing limb believed to belong to the murdered woman.
“Our officers were alerted by the area chief, but by the time we arrived, the suspect had already been lynched. Inside the house, we found more human remains,” said Kipkulei.
The recovered remains were transported to Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital Mortuary for further forensic analysis.
Kipkulei further disclosed that Onserio had been recently released from prison after serving time for a previous murder conviction. The revelation has raised serious questions about community safety and the reintegration of violent offenders.
Residents remain shaken as the investigation continues. Authorities have urged calm and warned against mob justice, stressing the need for suspects to be handed over to the police for due process.
This tragic and disturbing event has reignited national conversations around mental health, reintegration of ex-convicts, and the role of communities in early detection of abnormal behavior.
