Kenyan Woman Escapes Kidney Harvesting in Thailand Human Trafficking Scam

A Kenyan woman, Moreen Mukami, has come forward with a chilling story of how she nearly lost her kidney in a human trafficking syndicate in Thailand. What started as a promising job opportunity abroad turned into a nightmare of deceit, forced labor, and organ trafficking.

The Deceptive Job Offer

Moreen, a mother of one, was lured by a fraudulent job offer that promised a position as a marketing executive in Thailand. Introduced to the opportunity by a friend, she trusted the process and borrowed money to cover travel expenses. It wasn’t until she met the other Kenyan recruits at Jomo Kenyatta International Airport—mere hours before departure—that she realized how little she knew about the actual job.

Upon landing in Thailand, she and her group were redirected to Laos, where they were received by a Chinese agent. Initially, they were introduced to a seemingly harmless typing job, but things quickly took a sinister turn when they were sold to another company.

Forced Labor and Harsh Conditions

The company, run by Chinese nationals, specialized in online Bitcoin fraud. Moreen and her fellow victims were forced to create fake social media accounts to deceive wealthy Asians into investing in a fraudulent platform. The conditions were brutal—salary deductions were imposed for minor infractions like spending extra time in the washroom or failing to meet daily targets.

“Our phones were confiscated immediately upon arrival. We were only allowed access to them on weekends, and even then, we had to lie to our families that everything was fine,” Moreen recounted.

The company had reportedly paid Ksh3 million for each worker, and they were told they had to work until they repaid the amount.

The Horrors of Organ Trafficking

Moreen soon discovered an even darker side to the operation. She witnessed Chinese workers being taken to hidden rooms, only to return with stitches on their stomachs, indicating that their kidneys had been harvested.

“If they could do this to their own people, what about us?” she recalled, her voice trembling. The realization that she, too, could be a victim of organ trafficking sent her into survival mode.

A Narrow Escape

Determined to escape, Moreen complied with orders while searching for an opportunity to flee. Her chance came when she was transferred to another job in Canada, which also turned out to be a scam. Eventually, she managed to return home, but not without enduring immense psychological trauma.

A Warning to Job Seekers

Moreen’s story serves as a stark warning to Kenyans seeking jobs abroad. Many fall prey to human traffickers disguised as recruitment agencies. Authorities have urged job seekers to verify job offers thoroughly and report suspicious agents to prevent further cases of exploitation.

As human trafficking networks continue to target desperate job seekers, Moreen’s harrowing ordeal is a reminder of the dangers lurking behind seemingly lucrative opportunities. Her story is not just a testimony but a call for vigilance and stronger action against modern-day slavery.
