Justin Muturi’s Democratic Party Quits Kenya Kwanza Coalition After Fallout With Ruto
Public Service Cabinet Secretary Justin Muturi’s Democratic Party of Kenya (DP) has officially announced its decision to exit the Kenya Kwanza Alliance, citing irreconcilable political differences.
Why is DP Party Quitting Kenya Kwanza?
In a letter dated Wednesday, March 12, DP issued a 30-day notice to withdraw from President William Ruto’s ruling coalition. The notice, signed by DP Secretary General Jacob Haji, stated that remaining in the coalition had become untenable due to the prevailing political climate in the country.
“Kindly take notice that our stay in Kenya Kwanza Coalition is no longer tenable due to the prevailing political developments. Democratic Party of Kenya, vide this letter, hereby gives a thirty (30) day notice to exit the coalition as stipulated in the termination clause (8) in the coalition agreement. The notice is effective from the date of this letter,” Haji stated.
Political Implications of the Exit
The departure of Muturi’s party from the ruling coalition is expected to have significant political implications, particularly as Kenya navigates its evolving political landscape. The Democratic Party’s exit adds to the growing political realignments within the Kenya Kwanza administration, raising questions about the stability of the coalition.
Although Muturi, who serves as the Cabinet Secretary for Public Service, has not personally addressed the exit, political analysts speculate that the move could be linked to internal wrangles and dissatisfaction within Kenya Kwanza ranks.
Future of the Democratic Party
With this decision, DP now faces a new political path outside the ruling coalition. The party is expected to make strategic realignments in the coming months as it reassesses its political direction.
As the 30-day notice period unfolds, all eyes will be on Kenya Kwanza’s response and the potential ripple effects this decision may have on the broader political landscape.
