Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo Impeached by County Assembly
Isiolo Governor Abdi Guyo has been impeached after 16 out of 18 Members of the County Assembly (MCAs) voted in favour of a motion to remove him from office.
The motion, which was tabled by Sericho MCA Abubakar Godana, cited gross misconduct, violation of the Constitution, and abuse of office as the primary grounds for the governor’s ouster.
Godana accused Guyo of breaching Chapter Six of the Constitution, the Leadership and Integrity Act, and the Public Officers’ Ethics Act, all of which set standards for ethical leadership, accountability, and transparency in public service.
“These Acts provide for respect for the rule of law, good governance, accountability and transparency as key principles of leadership,” said Godana during the session.
The impeachment motion was debated in a highly guarded sitting on Thursday, reflecting growing tension within the county’s political leadership.
Guyo, who is serving his first term as governor, now awaits the next constitutional step—Senate consideration of the impeachment for possible ratification or rejection.
