Isebania Drug Bust: Police Seize 423kg of Bhang, Arrest 23-Year-Old Woman
Police in Isebania, Migori County, have made a major breakthrough in the fight against drug trafficking after seizing a massive 423 kilograms of bhang and arresting a 23-year-old woman in connection with the illegal trade.
The Raid That Led to the Bust
According to a report from Isebania Police Station, the dramatic operation followed a tip-off from members of the public, prompting a swift raid by the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) and her team. The officers stormed a godown in Taraqwiti village, located four kilometers from the police station, where they discovered the illicit stash.
“Upon conducting the search, they recovered 14 full sacks and two smaller sacks of dry plant material suspected to be cannabis sativa, weighing 423 kilograms and valued at approximately KSh 12,690,000,” the police report stated.
The suspect, a 23-year-old woman, was found in the compound of the godown. Authorities reported that she claimed the facility belonged to her brother-in-law, an angle now under active investigation.
Explosives and Cyanide Found in the Godown
The bust uncovered more than just bhang. Police also seized a cache of dangerous materials, including:
- 23 cartons of explosives commonly used in mining,
- Four drums containing 200kg of cyanide,
- Two cartons with eight rolls of detonating wire.
The discovery of explosives alongside the massive drug haul has raised serious security concerns, prompting further investigations by the anti-narcotics unit based in Migori.
Growing Crackdown on Bhang Trafficking
This arrest adds to a string of high-profile drug busts across the country. In the past week alone:
- March 14: Two suspects were arrested in Juja town, Kiambu County, after a National Authority for the Campaign Against Alcohol and Drug Abuse (NACADA) enforcement operation led to the discovery of bhang at a residential house.
- March 13: Three men were apprehended in Mombasa with multiple sacks of cannabis, allegedly en route to Bamburi before their operation was disrupted by police acting on a public tip-off.
What’s Next?
The arrested woman has already been arraigned in court as investigations continue into the source and intended destination of the seized bhang. Authorities have vowed to intensify their crackdown on narcotics trade in the region, with more arrests expected in the coming days.
