IEBC Selection Panel Concludes Interviews for Chairperson Position

The Selection Panel overseeing the recruitment of the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson has officially concluded interviews for the position. The process, which commenced on March 24, wrapped up on March 26, 2025.

According to Dr. Nelson Makanda, the Chair of the Selection Panel, all 11 shortlisted candidates attended their interviews as scheduled.

“We are happy to report that all 11 shortlisted candidates availed themselves to participate in the interview process,” Dr. Makanda stated.

With the chairperson interviews completed, the panel will now shift focus to evaluating candidates vying for membership positions within the electoral body.

Shortlisted Candidates for IEBC Chairperson

The candidates interviewed for the chairperson position include:

  • Former Judiciary Chief Registrar Anne Amadi
  • Saul Simiyu Wasilwa
  • Abdulqadir Lorot Ramadhan
  • Joy Mdivo
  • Edward Katama Ngeywa
  • Erastus Edung Ethekon
  • Francis Kakai Kissinger
  • Jacob Ngwele Muvengei
  • Lilian Wanjiku Manegene
  • Robert Akumu Asembo
  • Charles Nyachae

Next Steps: Interviews for IEBC Members

The panel will now proceed with interviews for individuals shortlisted for IEBC member positions. These interviews are scheduled to begin on Thursday, March 27, and will run until Friday, April 25, 2025.

Dr. Makanda also issued a reminder to all shortlisted applicants to provide valid clearance certificates from relevant institutions, including:

  • Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI)
  • Higher Education Loans Board (HELB)
  • Kenya Revenue Authority (KRA)
  • Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission (EACC)
  • Commission for University Education (for applicants with foreign degrees)
  • Any of the Credit Reference Bureaus (CRBs)

Public Participation in the Vetting Process

The public has been invited to submit any relevant information regarding the suitability of shortlisted candidates. Dr. Makanda urged members of the public to submit such information in writing and under oath via memoranda at least five days before the respective candidate’s interview date.

Memoranda can be submitted through the following channels:

  • Registered mail addressed to the Chairperson of the Selection Panel
  • Hand delivery in a sealed envelope to the Chairperson at the 3rd Floor, County House Building, Parliament Road, between 8:00 AM and 5:00 PM
  • Email submission in PDF format to iebcselectionpanel2025@parliament.go.ke

The recruitment of the new IEBC chairperson and commissioners is a crucial step in strengthening Kenya’s electoral body ahead of the next general elections. The panel is expected to make final recommendations in the coming weeks.
