Government Launches Nationwide Prison Officer Recruitment Drive Set for April 30

The Kenyan government has officially announced a nationwide recruitment exercise for prison constables, professional cadet officers, technicians, and artisans, scheduled for April 30, 2025. The recruitment will take place across all 47 counties and is open to both male and female candidates.

According to the Prisons Commissioner General, Patrick Aranduh, the exercise will be conducted in various locations including Nairobi, Mombasa, Kwale, Kilifi, Garissa, Tana River, Lamu, Mandera, Wajir, and Taita Taveta, among others.

Eligibility Requirements

Commissioner General Aranduh outlined a set of strict eligibility criteria for those aspiring to join the Kenya Prisons Service:

  • Must be a Kenyan citizen with a valid National ID card.
  • Must have no criminal record.
  • Must possess a minimum KCSE grade of D+.
  • Must be aged between 18 and 28 years.
  • Minimum height: 5 feet 4 inches for men and 5 feet 2 inches for women.
  • Must be physically and mentally fit, with good hearing and clear vision.
  • Female candidates must not be pregnant during recruitment or training.

He further noted that successful candidates will undergo an intensive para-military initial training program lasting no less than nine months.

Zero Tolerance for Corruption

The recruitment process will be conducted free of charge, and the government has warned against any form of corruption. Commissioner General Aranduh emphasized that any candidate caught presenting falsified documents or engaging in bribery will be immediately disqualified and prosecuted.

“Bribery and other acts of corruption are unlawful. Any person presenting themselves for recruitment with falsified documents or engaging in corrupt practices will be disqualified and prosecuted,” he stated.

Required Documents

Candidates are required to present the following original documents at the time of recruitment:

  • National Identification Card
  • Birth Certificate
  • Academic Certificates
  • KRA PIN
  • Any other relevant testimonials

Mombasa Recruitment Centers

In Mombasa County, the recruitment exercise will be held at the following locations:

  • Likoni Approved Grounds
  • Mvita Grounds
  • Nyali A.S.K Show Ground
  • Kisauni DCC’s Office
  • Changamwe Oil Refineries
  • Jomvu NYS Mamlai Grounds

Commissioner General Aranduh reminded all interested applicants that recruitment will only take place at the designated centers on the specified date.

As the country gears up for this massive recruitment drive, eligible candidates are encouraged to prepare their documents and meet the stated qualifications to stand a chance of joining the Kenya Prisons Service.
