Goons Raid GSU Camp in Angata Barikkoi Days After Deadly Clashes
A group of goons on Friday raided the General Service Unit (GSU) camp located in Angata Barikkoi, Narok County, just days after violent clashes in the region led to the deaths of five civilians and injuries to several police officers.
According to a police report, the raid took place shortly after GSU personnel vacated the camp during the night, following a directive issued by the Inspector General of Police, Douglas Kanja. The group of attackers, reportedly from Gwetembe Kuria East in Ntimaru Subcounty, Migori County, descended on the abandoned camp, vandalizing the structures and looting property.
The attackers made away with iron sheets, timber, water tanks, parts of the unit hut, and other valuables left behind by the officers.
Following the incident, the Officer Commanding Station (OCS) in Angata Barikkoi and his team visited the scene to assess the extent of the destruction and commence investigations into the raid.
This development comes in the wake of a high-profile visit by IG Kanja on April 29, 2025, after the deadly inter-community clashes that rocked the region. During his visit, Kanja emphasized the importance of improving coordination between security agencies and the local community to prevent future outbreaks of violence.
“Better coordination and community engagement are essential to avert such unfortunate incidents,” Kanja stated.
He further ordered the withdrawal of the current GSU personnel and directed that a new team comprising Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) and GSU officers be deployed to manage the area’s security.
“DCI, you must recall the DCIO here and post a new one that will work with the people,” Kanja ordered during his address to local law enforcement.
Authorities have since launched a probe to identify the perpetrators of the raid and ensure justice is served. The security situation in Angata Barikkoi remains tense as residents and leaders call for urgent measures to restore calm and order.
