German Doctor Accused of Murdering 15 Patients in Chilling Case That Shocks Europe
A 40-year-old palliative care doctor in Germany is facing chilling charges after being accused of murdering 15 of his patients over a nearly three-year period, according to Berlin prosecutors. The suspect, whose identity remains undisclosed due to Germany’s strict privacy laws, is alleged to have used a lethal mix of drugs to end the lives of vulnerable patients under his care.
Authorities say the doctor administered an anaesthetic along with a powerful muscle relaxant without the patients’ knowledge or consent. The combination reportedly led to rapid respiratory failure, causing death within minutes. Among the victims were 12 women and three men, ranging in age from 25 to 94.
The alleged murders occurred between September 2021 and July 2024 across several German states. Prosecutors believe the total number of victims could increase as investigations continue, with further exhumations already underway.
In a disturbing twist, the suspect is also accused of attempting to destroy evidence by setting fire to the homes of at least five victims. On one occasion in July 2024, he allegedly killed two patients in a single day—a 75-year-old man in central Berlin and a 76-year-old woman in a nearby district just hours later.
While attempting to burn down the woman’s apartment, the suspect reportedly failed to ignite the blaze and instead called a relative, pretending to be concerned that no one was answering the door.
The doctor was initially arrested in August 2024, suspected of involvement in four deaths. However, a broader investigation has revealed a growing number of suspicious cases tied to him.
Prosecutors are seeking a lifelong professional ban and preventative detention for the suspect, who remains in custody. He has not confessed to the charges, and a trial date is yet to be confirmed.
The case has sent shockwaves through the German medical community and raised serious concerns about the oversight of palliative care services. As investigations continue, families of potential victims are anxiously awaiting answers and justice.
