Gachagua Teases Opposition Masterplan to Unseat Ruto in 2027
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has dropped political bombshells, hinting at a grand opposition strategy to oust President William Ruto in the 2027 elections. Speaking at the funeral of Rev. Joseph Kiteng’e Nzola in Katelembo, Machakos County, Gachagua claimed that a powerful political blueprint is already in motion and will be publicly unveiled in December 2026.
Gachagua revealed that his longtime political associate, Kalonzo Musyoka, would play a central role in shaping the opposition’s path forward. He hinted at broad-based consultations and a united front that would offer Kenyans a compelling alternative come 2027.
Freedom of Expression Under Siege?
In a fiery critique of the Kenya Kwanza administration, the former DP accused the government of suppressing free speech, particularly targeting youth and performers. He referenced a recent incident involving Butere Girls High School students who were allegedly harassed by police during a drama festival in Nakuru County.
“Back in the Moi era, satire groups like ‘Ridiculous’ were tolerated,” said Gachagua. “Why is it that this government is afraid of artistic expression from children?”
He further claimed that Gen Z youth are being unfairly targeted by state agencies, even though their protests are rooted in legitimate demands for better governance.
Church Politics and Oscar Sudi
Addressing criticism against him from within the church, Gachagua dismissed Kapsaret MP Oscar Sudi’s recent Ksh.2 million donation to a Kiambu church as an act of political damage control.
“Throwing money at the church doesn’t fix broken trust,” Gachagua asserted.
He, alongside Kalonzo, condemned the alleged weaponization of the church by Kenya Kwanza leaders, accusing them of using religious platforms to attack dissenting voices.
Kalonzo Fires Back
Taking the podium, Wiper Party Leader Kalonzo Musyoka called on President Ruto to immediately halt what he termed political intimidation and aggression toward opposition leaders. He warned that if provocation continues, the opposition may be forced to re-evaluate its strategy, hinting at mass mobilization or legal challenges.
Unity Among Opposition Leaders
The show of unity at the funeral was strengthened by remarks from Makueni Senator Dan Maanzo, who branded the Kenya Kwanza government as “cursed,” and Machakos Senator Agnes Kavindu, who confidently predicted that Kalonzo Musyoka will be Kenya’s sixth president.
With just over two years until the general election, Kenya’s political landscape appears to be entering a new phase of intensity. As opposition figures rally behind a unified plan, all eyes are now on December 2026, when Gachagua promises to lift the veil on the roadmap to 2027.
