Gachagua: Ruto Cried at My House Begging for Help, Then Betrayed Me
In a stunning revelation, former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has accused President William Ruto of manipulating him into turning against former President Uhuru Kenyatta, only to later betray their unwritten pact.
Speaking during an interview with media personality Oga Obinna on Friday, Gachagua recounted how Ruto allegedly used emotional pleas and personal visits to win him over during the tense political fallout with Uhuru after the 2017 elections.
“He would come here and cry real tears,” Gachagua said. “‘My brother, please help me. I am a Christian. I am a good man. Help me,’ and out of sympathy, I said okay.”
Gachagua, a former Personal Assistant and long-time ally of Uhuru Kenyatta, revealed that there was no formal agreement between him and Ruto—just verbal commitments and what he assumed was mutual loyalty.
“I had no single document on the agreement,” he stated. “But I can tell you, if there is a deceptive guy, then it’s him. He made me abandon my brother and Kingsman Uhuru Kenyatta, a man I had worked with for many years, then he conned me through deception.”
According to Gachagua, Ruto was well aware of the deep political connection he had with Uhuru, particularly within the Mount Kenya region, and feared losing him to his former boss.
“You know I was a great friend of Uhuru Kenyatta. I was his PA. At one point, [Ruto] felt I was under so much pressure to go back to Uhuru, and he knew that if I left him, he was done,” he added.
Their political fallout marks one of the most dramatic shifts in Kenya’s recent political history. Gachagua, who had once been one of Ruto’s fiercest defenders during the 2022 elections, now openly criticizes the very man he helped bring to power.
Gachagua’s remarks add a fresh layer of drama to Kenya’s unfolding political narrative and come amid increasing speculation about his future political ambitions.
