Gachagua Holds Talks with Abagusii Community in Seattle, US
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua held a candid town hall meeting with members of the Abagusii community in Seattle, Washington, on Tuesday evening as part of his ongoing outreach tour across the United States.
Gachagua, accompanied by his spouse Pastor Dorcas Rigathi, described the meeting as an emotional and constructive engagement with what he referred to as his “cousins” from the Gusii community. The meeting was aimed at strengthening ties with Kenyans in the diaspora and sharing insights into Kenya’s current political and socio-economic challenges.
“This evening, I had the pleasure of meeting and having a candid discussion with my cousins from the Abagusii community in Seattle, Washington,” Gachagua said in a statement posted on X (formerly Twitter).
He lauded the community’s awareness of Kenya’s ongoing difficulties, noting their willingness to support meaningful reforms. “It’s motivating to see our community members come together with concern, hope, and a shared desire to contribute to a better future,” he added.
The Seattle meeting is part of Gachagua’s first international tour since his ouster from the Deputy President’s office in October 2024. Now the leader of the Democracy for Citizens Party (DCP), Gachagua plans to use the two-month U.S. tour to reconnect with Kenyans abroad and advance his political messaging.
He departed Kenya on July 9, 2025, with a multi-city itinerary that includes stops in Dallas, California, Boston, and Baltimore. His schedule includes town halls, social gatherings, and policy discussions intended to engage the diaspora in national development and politics.
Observers note that Gachagua’s U.S. tour could signal his re-entry into active politics, with growing speculation that he is preparing for a major political comeback ahead of the 2027 general election.
