Gachagua Condemns Ang’ata Barikoi Killings, Vows to Expose Leaders Behind Land Clashes
Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has strongly condemned the brutal killings in Ang’ata Barikoi, Narok County, and promised to reveal the names of the leaders allegedly responsible for orchestrating the chaos.
In a statement released on Monday evening, Gachagua expressed deep sorrow over the deaths of five people and injuries sustained by others during violent confrontations between residents and security forces. The former DP blamed the bloodshed on what he termed as “an insatiable appetite” by a section of political leaders seeking to illegally seize land from ordinary Kenyans.
“My heart goes out to the families of the five innocent people who have been shot dead and several who have been injured in Ang’ata Barikoi over the 6,000-acre piece of land which rightfully belongs to the citizens who have occupied the land for several decades,” Gachagua stated.
The controversial 6,000-acre land parcel, according to Gachagua, has long been home to local communities, making the recent attempts at demarcation and displacement both unjust and provocative.
Gachagua further demanded to know which leaders authorized the deployment of General Service Unit (GSU) and Rapid Deployment Unit (RDU) officers, accusing them of executing a “shoot-to-kill” order on innocent civilians.
“Who deployed GSU and RDU officers to exercise unlawful, lethal, and brutal police force on innocent Kenyans in Ang’ata? This forceful displacement of population is a crime against humanity, and whoever is culpable must face crimes against humanity,” he added.
He promised to gather and present evidence implicating the individuals behind the operation, vowing to “name and shame” those responsible for what he described as a heinous crime against humanity.
Gachagua also warned against Kenya sliding back into an era of dictatorship and brutality, urging the government to respect the rights of its citizens and pursue national prosperity instead.
Monday’s violence reportedly erupted after residents protested against government officials attempting to demarcate the disputed land. Tensions quickly escalated, leading to a deadly confrontation when security officers moved in to disperse the demonstrators.
As the country grapples with the Ang’ata Barikoi tragedy, many are now awaiting Gachagua’s promised exposé, which could potentially shake Kenya’s political and security establishment.
