Former Loreto High School Limuru Students Accuse 5 Staff of Sexual Assault
Just two days after protests erupted over alleged sexual abuse at Alliance Girls High School, fresh accusations have emerged from former students of Loreto High School, Limuru, shedding light on a growing crisis within Kenya’s elite girls’ schools.
In a notice dated Friday, July 11, the Loreto Limuru Alumni Association revealed reports of sexual grooming and misconduct by five staff members, prompting immediate concern and internal investigations by the school.
The issue was tabled during a Board of Management (BoM) meeting held on the same day, which was also attended by two former students who bravely came forward with allegations implicating specific staff.
In a statement, the school administration confirmed that it had launched internal investigations and summoned the accused staff members for questioning. The BoM further resolved that the Teachers’ Service Commission (TSC) should take over the disciplinary process to ensure fairness and transparency.
“To ensure justice for all the victims, the said staff should be subjected to TSC’s disciplinary procedures,” read a resolution from the meeting.
In a bid to enhance reporting and safeguard current students, the BoM agreed to install additional suggestion boxes across the school to facilitate confidential disclosures of misconduct.
“In this regard, all those who have experienced inappropriate conduct from the said staff are requested to provide this information to deal with the offenders appropriately,” stated the Alumni Association.
The association also recommended immediate mental health support for victims and stressed the importance of close collaboration between the BoM and the Parents’ Association to deliver justice and accountability.
This latest development mirrors disturbing allegations raised by Alliance Girls High School alumni, who held a protest outside their former school on Thursday, July 10. The group accused a male teacher of long-standing sexual misconduct and condemned the Teachers’ Service Commission for its alleged inaction.
Despite a heavy police presence during the protest, the former students held firm until Education Principal Secretary Julius Bitok addressed the matter.
“That teacher is going to be punished and interdicted. We have talked to TSC and all other stakeholders to ensure that he is arrested,” Bitok declared.
The unfolding events at Loreto and Alliance Girls underscore a broader crisis within the education sector, with calls growing louder for a nationwide inquiry into how institutions handle sexual abuse claims, especially those involving minors under the care of trusted educators.
Parents, alumni, and rights groups are now demanding swift justice, tighter oversight, and institutional reforms to protect students in Kenya’s schools.
