Explosion Rocks Mandera Hotel, Several Injured
A powerful explosion on Tuesday afternoon ripped through a local eatery in Mandera town, injuring an unknown number of people and leaving the community in shock.
The blast occurred at around 1 p.m. at the popular Delicacy Food Hotel, causing major damage to the establishment and triggering panic in the area. Eyewitnesses described scenes of chaos as people rushed to help the injured amid the wreckage.
Police have launched investigations into the cause of the explosion, which remains unclear as of now.
“The scene has been secured, and our officers are working with other agencies to establish the source and nature of the blast,” said a senior Mandera police officer.
The incident took place in a region that has previously witnessed cross-border incursions by al-Shabaab militants from Somalia. The town lies near the porous Kenya-Somalia border, a known hotspot for insecurity.
Tuesday’s explosion is the latest in a series of such incidents in northeastern Kenya, despite ongoing government operations to curb terrorist threats and enhance regional security.
Authorities are urging residents to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as investigations continue.
