EXCLUSIVE: Businessman Robbed of Sh7 Million After Leaving Nairobi Bank
A daring daylight robbery has rocked Nairobi’s Central Business District (CBD) after a businessman was ambushed and robbed of Sh7 million shortly after withdrawing the money from Absa Bank along Mama Ngina Street.
The incident, which occurred at approximately 9:47 a.m., has left many shocked and raised fresh concerns about the safety of bank customers in the city.
According to police reports and surveillance footage, the businessman was walking towards a nearby forex bureau to deliver the cash when a gang of about 12 men attacked him. The group, captured on security cameras, sprinted towards the unsuspecting victim, causing chaos as one of the assailants snatched the money and jumped onto a waiting van that quickly sped off.
Police believe the gang had prior knowledge of the transaction, suggesting the victim may have been tailed from the bank. Some of the robbers escaped on foot, taking advantage of the confusion as the stunned businessman attempted to raise an alarm. Witnesses say he was physically assaulted and floored during the robbery.
Officers from the Nairobi Police Department responded swiftly to the scene and have since launched a full investigation. They also visited the bank to collect evidence and review internal security protocols.
This incident adds to a worrying trend of similar attacks targeting bank clients. Just last week in Kitengela, a man was robbed of Sh307,000 meant for paying construction workers by criminals posing as police officers.
Investigators are exploring multiple angles, including possible collusion with rogue bank staff and insiders from the clients’ circles. Authorities have warned the public to remain vigilant and avoid carrying large amounts of cash without adequate security.
Absa Bank officials declined to comment, stating that the matter is under investigation.
Police are appealing to anyone with information on the robbery to come forward as the hunt for the suspects intensifies.
