“Even If You Chair IEBC, I’ll Defeat You” — Kalonzo Dares President Ruto in Explosive Attack Over 2027 Election

Wiper Party leader Kalonzo Musyoka has taken direct aim at President William Ruto, accusing him of rigging the electoral playing field by unilaterally appointing members to the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC)—but declaring it will all be in vain.

Speaking in Mwingi West, Kitui County during the burial of late Kariobangi North MCA Joel Munuve, Kalonzo vowed that no matter how President Ruto tries to manipulate the 2027 polls, he will still be defeated.

“Ata Ruto mwenyewe akijifanya yeye ndio chairman wa IEBC, Ruto must go!” Kalonzo told a charged crowd. “You cannot be a player and also pick the referee.”

The former Vice President revealed that he had written to both Ruto and ODM leader Raila Odinga to express concern over the IEBC appointments—moves that ignored the consensus built under the National Dialogue Committee (NADCO). However, both leaders have remained silent.

Kalonzo described himself as the “remedy for Kenya” and said the opposition was ready to face Ruto with or without a fair IEBC. “We will announce our own results at every polling station if need be. Kenyans will decide their leader — not a compromised electoral body,” he added.

His sentiments were strongly supported by DAP-K leader Eugene Wamalwa, who accused President Ruto of betraying the Bomas agreements by failing to consult other political stakeholders.

“You have violated the principle of concurrence and consultation that underpinned the Bomas process,” Wamalwa said. “But we are ready.”

The leaders also linked their remarks to growing political fears following the controversial death of MCA Joel Munuve. Kalonzo said samples have been sent abroad for additional toxicology tests, warning the state against resorting to intimidation and political assassinations.

Munuve died on April 22, 2025. An autopsy indicated a fatal blood clot, but some in the opposition believe the death warrants further scrutiny.

As Kenya edges closer to the 2027 General Election, the political heat continues to rise — and Kalonzo Musyoka has now openly declared war on what he describes as Ruto’s rigged system.
