Embu: Boda Boda Rider, Several Others Killed in Crash Involving Former Deputy Governor’s Car

A tragic accident near Kavingaci in Embu County on Sunday has claimed the lives of a boda boda rider, his female passenger, and left several others injured. The fatal crash involved a black SUV owned by the former Embu Deputy Governor and current National Social Security Fund (NSSF) Chairperson, Mr. Kariuki.

According to eyewitnesses and local authorities, the SUV struck a motorcycle, killing the rider and his passenger instantly before veering off the road and plunging into the Kapingazi River. Several other occupants in the SUV were trapped in the submerged vehicle, prompting a frantic rescue operation by police and emergency responders.

Bonventure Media reported that the vehicle’s precarious position in the river hampered immediate rescue efforts. Emergency teams worked tirelessly to extract the trapped individuals from the wreckage.

The identities of the deceased have not yet been released, pending notification of their families.

In the aftermath, misinformation circulated online claiming that the SUV was part of President William Ruto’s motorcade. However, Embu Woman Representative Pamela Njoki Njeru, who was also involved in the incident, clarified that no vehicle in the president’s convoy was part of the crash.

“My car was the one hit from behind in the accident at Kapingazi River,” Njoki said, urging the public to refrain from spreading false information.

The crash has sparked renewed debate on road safety and the impact of VIP convoys on ordinary road users, especially in rural and high-traffic areas.

Authorities have launched a formal investigation into the cause of the accident. The public is encouraged to rely on official sources for updates as more details emerge.

Condolences have poured in from across the country, with many expressing grief over the loss of innocent lives. The nation stands in solidarity with the affected families during this difficult time.
