DCI Arrests Two Suspects Caught Robbing People During President Ruto’s Nairobi Tour
The Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) has arrested two suspects who were caught on video robbing unsuspecting victims along Thika Road and Langata Road during President William Ruto’s recent tour of Nairobi.
Suspects Identified and Arrested
The suspects, identified as Yahya Abdi Argamso and Musa Kimani Haji, were apprehended at their hideout in Mlango Kubwa, Pangani, Nairobi, on Tuesday, March 18, 2025. Their arrest follows a viral video that captured them engaging in robbery incidents while on a motorcycle during the presidential convoy.
Court Grants DCI More Time for Investigation
Corporal Kassim Yakub from Starehe DCI offices successfully obtained orders from the Makadara Law Courts to detain the two suspects for five days as investigations continue. Senior Principal Magistrate Joseph Karanja granted the orders, with the case set to be mentioned on March 25.
Recovered Items and Evidence
According to an affidavit filed in court, law enforcement officers recovered several pieces of evidence at the time of arrest, including:
- A motorcycle, registration number KMFK 108Z, allegedly used in the robberies.
- Two stolen mobile phones—a Samsung Galaxy S21 Ultra and an iPhone—suspected to belong to victims of the crimes.
Details of the Investigation
The DCI is investigating a case of robbery with violence related to incidents that occurred during presidential events on March 11 and March 13, 2025. According to the affidavit:
“On diverse dates between March 11 and 13, 2025, the respondents (Yahya and Musa), on board a motorcycle, were captured on camera robbing people along the Thika Superhighway and Langata Road. The videos circulated on social media, prompting investigations that led to their identification and subsequent arrest.”
Concerns Over Flight Risk and Additional Suspects
The DCI expressed concerns that the two suspects are a flight risk, as they lack a known place of residence and had no identification documents at the time of their arrest. Authorities believe they hold crucial information about the whereabouts of other robbery suspects who remain at large.
Investigators are working on:
- Interrogating the suspects and recording their statements.
- Recovering weapons used in the robberies.
- Analyzing the two recovered mobile phones at the DCI Cybercrime Unit.
- Tracing and apprehending other suspects.
- Reviewing the footage and forwarding it to the photographic and acoustic section for further analysis.
Ongoing Pursuit of Justice
With the suspects in custody and the investigation ongoing, the DCI is determined to dismantle the criminal network involved in the robberies. The authorities urge members of the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as efforts to curb crime in the city intensify.
The case will be mentioned on March 25, 2025, as the DCI continues to gather crucial evidence against the suspects and their accomplices.
