Cheluget Family Defends Ruto in Heated 5,800-Acre Narok Land Dispute, Labels Moses Kipkirui an Impostor

A major development has emerged in the ongoing controversy over a 5,800-acre land parcel in Narok after the family of the late Isaiah Kiplangat Cheluget disowned a man claiming to be the rightful heir and dismissed his recent accusations against President William Ruto.

In a strongly worded statement issued during a press conference on Saturday, official representatives of the Cheluget family publicly defended President Ruto and dismissed claims made by Moses Kipkirui Cheluget, who alleged the government had bypassed the family in purchasing the disputed land.

Led by Ambassador Nancy Kirui, the family clarified that succession matters surrounding the estate were conclusively settled by the High Court in Kericho and that a confirmation of grant had been issued on June 12, 2018—effectively giving legal authority to current administrators of the estate.

“Mr. Moses Cheluget is a stranger to this process,” the family declared. “His petition to be recognized as the biological son of the late Isaiah Cheluget was dismissed by the High Court, and his request for a DNA test via exhumation was denied due to procedural and cultural grounds.”

According to the family, Moses Kipkirui has no legal standing to represent or speak on behalf of the Cheluget estate and his actions are seen as attempts to derail ongoing, lawful discussions with the government.

The family also emphasized that prior to his death in 2017, the late Cheluget had reached out to the government multiple times, requesting intervention on the land matter. They say the discussions with President Ruto’s administration—including the Principal Secretary for Lands, Narok County Governor, and Director for Settlements—are simply the fulfilment of the late patriarch’s wishes.

“We have held several meetings with the President’s representatives. These talks were peaceful, productive, and focused on reaching a resolution that honors both our family’s interests and the public good,” Ambassador Kirui stated.

The land in question became a national conversation after President Ruto, while touring Narok South on May 6, 2025, revealed that he had engaged with Cheluget’s family regarding the potential acquisition of the property for resettling squatters. The announcement sparked backlash after Kipkirui denied any such discussions, claiming no one in the family had authorized a sale.

But with these new revelations, the Cheluget family has moved to discredit Kipkirui’s assertions and protect the legitimacy of their agreement with the government.

“There should be no confusion,” the family concluded. “We are the rightful representatives of Isaiah Cheluget’s estate. Anyone else claiming to speak on our behalf is misleading the public and undermining due process.”

This latest twist raises fresh questions about land inheritance, identity fraud, and the use of high-profile disputes for personal gain. The government, for its part, has not yet issued a follow-up response, but with family support now squarely behind him, President Ruto appears to have avoided what could have been a politically damaging land scandal.
