Busia Woman Comes Out Claiming to be ‘Mary Mother of Jesus’

A woman from Busia County has caused a stir after publicly declaring that she is Mary, Mother of Jesus. Judith Nafula, a Catholic faithful from Nangoma village in Matayos constituency, claims to have received this divine identity during a spiritual encounter.

Speaking to the press, Nafula recounted a vision in which a radiant light descended from the sky with Jesus at its center. “A light came down from heaven, and in the middle of it was Jesus. He asked me where Mother Mary was and told me I was her. He said it was time for the world to know who I really am,” she said.

Following the vision, Nafula says she was led by the Holy Spirit to a nearby hill where she lived for two months, engaging in what she described as spiritual conversations.

In a surprising twist, her husband John Wekullo claimed he also received a divine message identifying him as Joseph, the Biblical husband of Mary. The couple now believes they are holy reincarnations with a spiritual mission.

Nafula’s claims have been met with both ridicule and fascination. Her local church rejected her, accusing her of madness and blasphemy. “They said I was insane and threw me out of church,” she stated.

Despite the backlash, Nafula has attracted a growing number of followers from within and beyond Busia County. Locals have begun visiting her home for prayers and blessings, with some claiming miraculous healings and answered prayers.

“People who couldn’t conceive are now having children. The sick have been healed,” said Nafula’s sister-in-law, who also supports her claims.

The incident has reignited debate over the increasing number of self-proclaimed spiritual figures in Kenya. While some see Nafula as a divine messenger, others warn of potential exploitation and blasphemy. Religious authorities have yet to issue an official statement on the matter.
